REI HAMON
I just love the work of New Zealand artist Rei Hamon (1919-2008). Discovered him when we visited an old bookshop in NZ last year, and displayed was this amazing book with images from an imaginary world, coming alive by millions of dots.
The story is that Rei discovered his art talent while recovering from a crippling farm accident in 1965 when he was 46 years old, which left him almost paralyzed. With a family to feed and bills to pay, Rei and his wife Maia prayed for a solution. Upon rising from his knees Rei picked up a ballpoint pen and pad that had been left behind by his youngest daughter and began to draw - something he hadn't done since his early days in primary school.
